چکیده

Sappan wood (Caesalpinia sappan) is very well known as a natural dye for traditional food and beverage in many countries. Recently, there are reports of sappan adulteration by adding synthetic or dyes to obtain quality color better appearance. In this study, UV-Vis absorption spectra coupled with chemometrics were used develop rapid detection raw material (authentication) from three dyes, i.e., sudan III, commercial textile red yeast rice. Absorption 13 adulterated the two different concentrations which resulted about 78 samples measured spectrophotometer at wavelength range 200-800 nm. A principal component analysis followed discriminant was construct model authentication study. The combination both methods successfully classified non-adulterated dyes. Cross-validation results rice 94.12%, 92.16% correctly into their groups, respectively.

Novel Application of Near-infrared Spectroscopy and Chemometrics Approach for Detection of Lime Juice Adulteration

The aim of this study is to investigate the novel application of a ‎handheld near infra-red spectrophotometer coupled with classification methodologies as a screening approach in detection of adulterated lime juices. For this purpose, a miniaturized near infra-red spectrophotometer (Tellspec®) in the spectral range of 900–1700 nm was used. Three diffuse reflectance spectra of 31 pure...

Suppression of melanin synthesis by the phenolic constituents of sappanwood (Caesalpinia sappan).

Sappanwood (Caesalpinia sappan Linn.) is used as an herbal medicine. It is sometimes used to treat skin damage or as a facial cleanser. In the present study, the methanol (MeOH) extract of sappanwood was found to inhibit melanin synthesis in cultured human melanoma HMV-II cells stimulated with forskolin, and six active compounds (1-5 and 7) were isolated from the extract along with a non-active...

UV-Vis spectroscopy of stardust

NASA’s Stardust mission flew through the coma of comet Wild 2 in January 2004, capturing dust grains as it did so. The grains were returned safely to Earth in January 2006, and are in the process of being distributed to investigators. As members of the Spectroscopy Preliminary Examination Team, we are preparing to analyse Stardust grains. Our contribution is to measure the spectrum of the grain...
